Bahamas Fishing - Abacos Fishing Report

Captain Joe finished up the tail end of a two week lease of LOW PROFILE Saturday.   A family from the Cape May County area  opted to lease LOW PROFILE and leave their boat up north this season.  They fished out of Treasure Cay Marina in the Abacos, and were targeting billfish primarily.  Overall, the fishing is quite good, even if there aren’t as many billfish around, as we’d like to see.  It’s probably about 3 weeks early for the main school of Blue and White Marlin to move in.  That all being said, the group managed to see 1-2 bills a day, while boating all the dolphin they wanted, and picking away at late season Wahoo as well.  Most of their fishing was concentrated in the deep water structure that lies to the east of the Abaco Island Chain.  The LOW PROFILE is now on its way to Cat Island to compete in the Hawks Nest Billfish Blast, and fish for a couple weeks in the Southern Bahamas, before winding back up in late May in Treasure Cay.

Islamorada Fishing Report

Not a whole lot to report this week from down here in the Keys. The weather got us most of the week....winds 25 and gusty...not much fun. However, we did fish later in the week, the water is still gin clear and very little current which as you have learned by now, is not good. We had to put our time in and lots of hard work but we managed to put a nice catch together each day. The yellowtails are a little bit smaller now with all the spawning going on and with the water so clear they really don’t like to play. We also caught a few groupers on live cigar minnows. Yesterday and today we spent the mornings offshore catching some schoolie dolphin 3 to 8lbs get table fare. The groups have all been happy and have had plenty of fresh fish to eat. Capt. Jeff has done a few trips in the evening for Tarpons and has had several great bites and even managed to capture a few. This should do nothing but get better as the season has just begun.

New Jersey Fishing Report

We are getting an early jump on things in South Jersey this season, and as such PRETTY WORK arrived in our slip at Avalon Pointe Marina this week and is ready to go. NJ is shaping up to be an active season for OU, as we've now opened our Offshore Fishing Store at APM and will have our new line of Mirage Sportfish Boats available for sale at the facility also. PRETTY WORK, LOW PROFILE, and both our new Mirage 21' and 32' will be available for charter out of Avalon Pointe Marina throughout the upcoming season.

Word is, the drum are just starting to bite and the striped bass are still hanging around in the bay as well. The tog bite has been excellent, although the season recently closed on us. Offshore there is a great bite of big sea bass to be had, so there's plenty of early season action to get in on before we start shark fishing in June.
